Privacy Policy
Praatje is an iPhone app for learning Dutch, made by Thale Apps. The short version: Praatje does not collect any personal data. Your progress stays on your iPhone. We cannot see it.
What we collect
Nothing. Praatje has no accounts, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting service and no third-party code. It does not track you, does not use the advertising identifier, and never sends your data to us or to anyone else.
Your progress
Lessons you finish, your words and flashcards, streaks, badges, mistakes, exam practice and conversation history are saved only on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them. You can also erase everything in the app under Settings > Erase all progress.
The widget
The Praatje widget shows the word of the day, your streak and how many cards are due. The app shares those few numbers with its own widget through your iPhone's keychain. They never leave the device.
Conversations with Pim
Guided conversations run fully offline. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, live conversations use Apple's on-device language model, so what you type or say to Pim is processed on your iPhone and is not sent to us.
Microphone and speech recognition
When you hold the talk button, Praatje uses the microphone and Apple's speech recognition to turn your Dutch into text, so it can understand your answer and estimate your pronunciation. Audio is not recorded or stored by Praatje. Where your iPhone supports on-device Dutch recognition, this happens on the device. On models without it, Apple may process the speech on its servers. That is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. You can say no to the microphone and still use Praatje: speaking exercises then become a self-check.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, it is a local notification scheduled on your iPhone. It is not sent from a server.
Praatje Plus, the free trial and purchases
Praatje Plus subscriptions, the 7-day free trial and the lifetime purchase are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store with your Apple Account. We never see your payment details, name or email. The app asks the App Store whether you have Praatje Plus or a running trial, and uses the answer only on your iPhone, for example to unlock lessons and to schedule the reminder two days before your trial ends.
Children
Because the app collects no personal data, it collects none from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
