Support

Questions, bugs or a Dutch sentence that looks wrong: email thaleapps@gmail.com. Please say which lesson it was (the title is at the top of the lesson) and which iPhone and iOS version you use.

Getting started

• Pick your level when you first open Praatje. Not sure? Take the short level check, or start at A0: it assumes you know no Dutch at all.
• Today shows one guided session a day: a short lesson, a few flashcards and a little conversation with Pim.
• Tap any Dutch word in a lesson to see what it means and hear it.

Speaking and the microphone

• Hold the talk button while you speak, then let go. Praatje turns your Dutch into text and scores your pronunciation.
• If Praatje can't hear you, check Settings > Praatje and make sure Microphone and Speech Recognition are on.
• No microphone? Speaking exercises become a self-check, so you can still finish every lesson.

Better Dutch voices

Lessons come with recorded audio. For live conversations Praatje uses your iPhone's Dutch voice. For the most natural sound, download an Enhanced Dutch voice: Settings > Accessibility > Read & Speak > Voices > Dutch. Praatje shows a short guide for this in the app.

Live conversations

On iPhones with Apple Intelligence turned on, Pim can hold free conversations with you, on the device. On other iPhones, Pim runs guided conversations that work fully offline.

The widget

Long-press your Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Praatje to see the word of the day, your streak and the cards due.

Praatje Plus and the free trial

• Free forever: the A0 starter level, the first unit of every level, five conversation missions, one free talk a day, flashcards, streaks and the widget.
• Praatje Plus unlocks everything else. The yearly and monthly plans start with 7 days free; Praatje reminds you two days before the trial ends. Lifetime is a single payment.
• To cancel a subscription or the trial: Settings > your name > Subscriptions > Praatje Plus. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or period ends to avoid the next charge.
• New iPhone or reinstalled? Open Praatje Plus in the app and tap Restore purchases.
• Refunds are handled by Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your progress

Everything is stored on your iPhone, with no account. That also means deleting the app deletes your progress. To start over, use Settings > Erase all progress.
